Let the Adventure Begin. Message from the CSM President

Message from the CSM President

If you missed the early bird registration (Sept 21), you’re lucky as we’ve extended it to the end of the weekend (Sept 23). So sign up and get a chance to ski the infamous “toboggan run” on section 3. For those of you that know past skiers that don’t use email, please give them a call and let them know to sign up. We will always do the right thing and honour early bird rates for them.

This year, you will be skiing from Lachute to Gatineau. It seems like an eternity since we last skied that direction so for CDB hopefuls, it won’t be a “gimmy” year. The CSM prides itself on challenge, adventure and fun. We truly hope that you sign up and “Let the Adventure Begin”

I am deeply encouraged and energized by the positive momentum and feedback that we have had from our loyal base of participants that sign up every year. Thank you to all the folks that have “Liked” us on Facebook or “Followed” us on Twitter, shared stories with us and friends (such as the horse on the trail last year; my kids thought it was a “Yeti”). Outside of our website, social media is the quickest and most efficient way of getting out our message to you and your networks all over the world.

Speaking of kids, a special mention goes out to Nakkertok, the Viking Club, and Chelsea Nordiq for taking on the CSM Ski Club Challenge last year and your early interest and preparations for this year. Your enthusiasm and “can-do” spirit is an inspiration to all CSM skiers! Thank you for showing us exactly how far you can go!

Yes, we are out of the hotel booking business. If you want to stay at the Montebello, give them a call. This doesn’t mean that the Chateau Montebello isn’t a key part of the event, not at all. They have created an attractive ski package which includes accommodation, amenities and meals in the main dining room. The packages are on a first come, first serve basis. My advice would be to book your room as soon as possible. You don’t want to be disappointed if they sell out early.

A sincere thank you goes to Chandra Crawford, Canadian XC Gold Medalist and Honorary CSM President. As a thank you for her involvement, we have added the “Fast and Female” logo to the 2013 CSM event shirts. Fast and Female is the organization that she founded with the mandate to empower girls and young women through sport. This is a perfect partner for the CSM as the fastest growing skier base within the CSM is with Youth and Women. Very exciting - way to ski ladies!

Finally, thank you to the entire CSM family and alumni that give their time and energy to make the CSM a success: sponsors, partners, board members, volunteers and especially skiers! We appreciate everything that you do and we are forever thankful for your commitment, energy and enthusiasm!

Here’s to an incredible 2013 and our goal of 2000 skiers … and Let the adventure begin!

CHECK POINT 8 – Bite into it!

Bite into the Outouais! Ski into Check Point 8 to enjoy locally produced and grown food and hot chocolate!

Gatineau, February 7th 2012 – This year, for the 46th edition of the Canadian Ski Marathon, some producers from the Outaouais region will greet the skiers and non skiers at the Croquez l’Outaouais! (Outaouais bite into it !) checkpoint, located right in the heart of the St-Sixte village.

All are invited to come and greet the skiers taking part in this annual winter ski tour, the oldest and longest in North America. They will be expected at the checkpoint in St-Sixte by local producers from the region that will invite them to discover the richness and the quality of their products.

For the occasion, the Syndicat des producteurs de lait Outaouais-Laurentides will offer visitors free chocolate milk (quantities are limited).

The following businesses will be present:

  • Syndicat des producteurs de lait Outaouais-Laurentides (chocolate milk)
  • Les Paniers d’Élaine (maple products)
